View Full Version : New guild-ish thing?

Got maybe a decent idea.

In the future you know some semi-shitty and overhyped-bound-to-fail-mmo's are coming out and maybe amongst one of them there might be something decent enough to keep playing. And just to take a bite of every cake it might not be bad to get some sort of community-guild going to share idea's and maybe play those game in a different way.

To name a few games: Tera, Rift, FFIV, ...

I know I would like to test both Tera and Rift, but I maybe don't want to do it alone. However I don't want to be tied to a strict guild either. What some of us built up is more of a community than a guild, as now we're still chatting to eachother about future games and random stuff.

Something nice would be to have a "guild" for those upcoming games, attract more people, "recruit", etc.. so you and I have a decent group to have fun with. And during the beta times of those games, the people interested could get together and create a real guild for said game and keep it active.

This all should remain in a fairly loose environment, some rules should apply if a guild were to be made (like keeping activity and attending guild events). By no means does it need to evolve in a hardcore, super strict guild. We all have extensive experience from our past Aion-encounter, we tried everything but only our pre-launch system seemed to work (keeping in touch, communicating). After a while some noticed Aion sucked, left and put the guild under strain. No clue how to solve such things, but I'm sure with a wider spectrum of people and games, we might be just be able to find some solutions.

In practice:
Sanctuary is the community where the guilds will be created. We advertise on game forums of Tera, Rift, ... and say we're "recruiting" people for said games. We clearly mention we have no guild structure, goals or anything until we actualy try the game and see how it can be played with our memberbase. During beta times we discuss together with the members if we will establish a solid guild or just continue as a casual community(guild) in the game. If people are interested to play more serious, we will create a decent guild and provide anything needed for that guild. Dedicated forum parts, appoint officers and help them go on a recruiting spree to establish a very decent guild. If people are not that interested during beta or the game is just not that great to play more than casually, we will decide together not to take the guild matters in the game that serious and just create a guild in there for fun, shout ingame for free invites and just be a social haven in the game (probably with maximum guild members ingame).

It is highly possible that with this kind of test-platform we could possibly have 100's of people joining, and that is no issue at all. Once we decide to make a decent guild in a game, we can always make a 2nd application process with our current members to decide who to take in the serious guild.

On top of that, the community could choose one F2P mmo for all it's members to enjoy when they have no P2P mmo to play. And ofcourse for that F2P we will recruit ingame as well.

PS. Not sure to keep Sanctuary-Guild.net as the base for this, feel free to give suggestions if you would be interested in /following.

you know I can't say no... ;) but as I've said, I will no longer be playing instead of having a social life! So I shall become casual... (ughh... that almost hurt to say lol)

Hello there!

Am I drunk or it happens again? oO
History likes to repeat itself... I feel as if I were one year younger...

I was truly depressed when it came to me, that you abandoned the world of Atreia and disappeared... Your achievements in Aion proved that you were truly hardcore and successful guild, but your short-term presence in that game also taught me, that you are guys unstable. When I first seen the name "Sanctuary" i believed that it will be something solid, everlasting, timeless... A monastery full of monks cultivating the same game whole days for long years together! And you just burned out after few months!

But... I understand, even if you don't...
Your hardcore attitude to the MMO (at least to the PvE side of it) makes you unable to have long-term fun from playing it. You're focused on achieving not on socializing and that's your curse. You're great bunch of very inteligent people and I wish you all best... but you'll never find right MMO to play as it is unsuitable genre for you.

As for me, I've finally ended my career in Lineage after 5 years of playing it and started in Aion about month ago. I plan to stay with this game for another few years, hoping it will evolve into something truly great. And I don't believe that such inventions like TERA or other MMO mutations can beat Aion with its planned expansion.

Good luck, have fun & enjoy the wait...
Hope next time the period of playing will be longer than the period of waiting ;)

PS. One more thing: It doesn't matter what are you playing, but who are you playing with.

You left to early to understand how we done things. We always put the social aspect before anything and that was mainly the reason why our guild lost so many members at certain times. We were filled with elitists and assholes at some times which made it hard to remain the friendly, communicative Sanctuary we intended to be. On top of that almost everyone felt Aion was only going downhill around endgame and it also put alot of strain in hosting guild activities (there is no real guild event you can do, in other words hard to bring your whole guild together ingame and socialize).

You clearly left too early to know, and clearly did not grasp what Sanctuary was about. Around February we also rerolled on Telemachus to primarily be with friends in full harmony and agreement on levelling and sharing. We couldn't be more social at that point, so again, it's clear you have no clue who we are and how we wanted to do things.

We were just a guild struck with constant setbacks that left us unstable, we never were unstable due to being unsocial. And it is not our fault Aion is a failure and we were yet one of those top guilds who threw in the towel. If you check any top50 of any server you see alot of renown, solid guilds who called it quits just because Aion was not a good and fun game to play.

I understand if you think that way, but then I also understand you don't know Sanctuary.

PS. I pulled an all-nighter due to work, my words could be a bit to-the-point right now, but all the long-time Sanctuarians will agree to the above.

And I'm not trying to say that you were unsocial or something... But your expectations are just too high. You think that miraculous game both beautiful and overfilled with end-game content will appear out of nowhere... Open your eyes, it is is not supposed to happen! MMO game is a damn great and expensive project, every new tittle needs years to grow. Like a tree!

Aion itself at its current stage of developement can be compared to World of Warcraft WITHOUT expansions (TBC & WOTLK). Look how poor was WoW then, and how rich it is now. The same story goes for any other MMO but years must pass.

Er.. I'm only speaking on behalf of myself when I say this. But WoW was awesome back then, I loved WoW without the expansions. It had it's downsides of course, but on the whole, I had more fun back then than I do playing it now.

I guess the game pure mechanicswise etc has been improved but the overall feeling of it hasn't, imo.

(Also I'm not really going to touch the topic of an MMO needing to grow etc etc, just wanted to voice my opinion regarding WoW individually, that's all).

Does that mean we need to play games we do not like to play? I have played Aion 3 months longer than I wanted, but that was because of the people in Sanctuary. Everyone was doing the same and eventualy had to say no to Aion.

Even if Aion gets great updates, nice content, etc... It just is not the game for me to play. I doubt they will step down from the tank & spank gameplay and the way NCsoft works is not the way I would like the developer to act. I've also told myself to avoid companies like Funcom & NCsoft in the future as they have not yet made a game (even with extensive updates) that is worth playing in the long run. You must also know Aion is now 1,5 year old and is still not able to provide a long-term experience.

And I actually enjoyed WoW until TBC. :)

Yea, yea, but also times were different... If the same WoW appeared today you would rather not play it :P
I'm aware that Bizzard fucked its game, though it doesn't change the fact it's the big one, still interesting, still playable, and still alive.

WoW Vanilla was excellent. I depsised the expansions. As did my guild and many of the guys i played with. What's the point of spendoing countless hours raiding for gear or acheiving high warlord pvp status when some prat can spend a few days in the arena and get the same/better gear. Anyhow, wow has changed, alot. The problem with Aion was, for me anyhow the balance of classes was pretty messed up and the lack of game immersion.

Good times :[ Just been going downwards from TBC (Parts of TBC was ok too, but still). It's such a kids game now, only thing missing now is that the game plays the game for you. And you can just scratch your ass and watch. Seriously.

Oh and, I only managed to reach Commander XD Kickass rank to have though.

Well I am still playing Aion a few times a week, and I think that they can still save it if they want to. The problem, imho, with Aion is the same one that plagues a lot of mmo's - they think that pvp replaces decent pve content. It's almost as if they are treating the pve content as secondary - reducing it to a training ground with a long grind to the "endgame" then nothing.

They just can't base the "endgame" on pvp because it becomes too dependent on the players themselves to provide their own entertainment. What if your faction is hugely outnumbered? What if pvp class balance is out of whack? What if game mechanices are out of whack?

Aion has some problems which are fixable; they can add significant endgame pve content; they can (and will be soon) provide areas where players can avoid flying combat. Other problems are not fixable; faction imbalance is completely out of their control; an old 2d game engine cannot ever fully support 3d game play.

My time with Sanctuary in Aion was great, and I loved playing as part of such an awesome guild, but I knew months before we officially quit that I would never be more than a casual player in Aion. I am going to try Tera out - if for no other reason than to be playing a game with you guys again - but the main reason is that I have hardly come accross the phrase "pvp" once on the official website. It gives me hope that it will be a fully realised pve game with some pvp added on.

It's rumoured TERA is a bit more PvE based, which (to me) is only for the better. I'm sure they'll implement awesome PvP, but without decent repeatable endgame PvE a game won't be long lasting. For that reason.. TEERRRAAA :)
